Laid off from Thor Industries.
Losing work at a Thor Industries plant is hard, and the layoff has come under a brand's name rather than Thor's. What came with it has differed by brand, from a transfer offer at Tiffin to a hoped-for recall at Airstream and a few possible spots at other Keystone plants.

The most recent Thor Industries layoff we've found

Its September 22 results then said Thor had made difficult decisions in a down market.
What Thor Industries layoffs have meant for employees
Every notice for Thor's businesses in our WARN tracker was filed by a brand or unit, so if you're trying to find the one covering your plant, it helps to search for Keystone, Heartland, Cruiser RV, DRV or Tiffin rather than Thor. Cruiser RV and DRV, which Heartland bought in 2015, filed under their own names in 2025, RV PRO noted, and Thor's parts makers have their 2020 notices under Airxcel and MCD Innovations. In Thor's reshuffles since 2025, the brands have outlasted some of the buildings that made them. Tiffin's Class C motorhomes went to Red Bay with the Winfield workers who agreed to follow them, AL.com reported.
Sturgis, Michigan shows how fast that can happen. Thor had said it would put $35.9 million into a plant there to build Heartland and Cruiser RV models, backed by a $700,000 state grant, and the plant opened in November 2023. By April 2025 Heartland had told Michigan it would close the plant that June, ending 121 jobs, six of them salaried, Crain's Grand Rapids reported. A new building and public money weren't enough to keep its crew working.
Because the terms have differed from one closing to the next, the ones another plant got may not match yours. If a transfer is offered, it's worth asking for the pay, the shift, the start date and the location in writing before you answer, and whether turning it down changes anything else you'd receive. Where a plant is closing, it's worth asking HR whether the state's rapid response team will be involved. Tiffin pointed VanLeigh's workers to Mississippi's in 2023, RV PRO reported. If you're being let go, you can ask HR to confirm your last day, your final check and the date your health coverage ends, and our page on how COBRA works covers what keeping a company plan involves.
Thor's 10-K restructuring note says it restructured departments and eliminated management levels outside its three RV segments in fiscal 2025 and 2026, and that its North American motorhome segment cut jobs and closed a facility in the third and fourth quarters of fiscal 2026. Separately, its reported salaried US headcount went from about 2,100 in its fiscal 2025 annual report to about 2,000 in the fiscal 2026 report. The note counts severance and related benefits as a cost in every segment for fiscal 2026, $18.2 million of the year's $26.8 million in Europe. If a severance offer comes your way, you can ask whether a company policy sets its terms and whether payment depends on signing a release.
Thor's September 22 results put North American towable shipments down 20.7% for the fiscal year that ended in July 2026, a year the release said proved more challenging than anticipated and that Thor met with restructuring actions. If you've been told a layoff may not be permanent, it's worth asking how a recall would reach you and whether your seniority and benefits would pick up where they left off.
Since 2025, the Thor notices in our tracker have come from Indiana, Michigan and Alabama. If you worked at one of those plants, our pages on Indiana unemployment benefits, Michigan unemployment benefits and Alabama unemployment benefits cover filing a claim in each state, and Indiana's layoffs page covers the state's notice list. Airstream's crews in Ohio can turn to Ohio's benefits page for the same. Michigan's archive holds only layoff dates, so the Sturgis row shows June 20, 2025, the day those jobs were set to end, rather than the day Heartland filed.

What to do if you're laid off from Thor Industries
- File for unemployment in the state where you worked. Benefits run from your filing date, and severance usually doesn't block you. Thor Industries's biggest hubs: Indiana, Michigan, Alabama. Somewhere else? Every state is here.
- Apply for financial and hardship assistance. Unemployment supplements income, but food benefits, health coverage and utility help are often available as well. Here's some of what Thor Industries's hub states run: Indiana, Michigan, Alabama, and every other state is here.
- Mind the health insurance window. Losing coverage opens a 60-day special enrollment period, and an ACA plan usually beats unsubsidized COBRA. Compare your options before the employer coverage lapses, and read how the COBRA clocks run if you are weighing it seriously.
- Get your real runway number. Severance plus savings divided by reality. The calculator takes five minutes.
- Know which clocks are already running. Severance review windows, COBRA election, visa grace periods, and 401(k) rollovers all run on federal deadlines that started at termination. All five deadlines are here.
Thor Industries layoff and severance questions
What severance has Thor Industries given laid-off employees?
The plainest answer on record comes from the April 2025 Indiana notices for Heartland, Cruiser RV and DRV, which said no separation or continued health coverage benefits would be provided, according to RV PRO. Severance does show up in Thor's accounts, $7.5 million of it in North American towables for fiscal 2026, according to its 10-K restructuring note, which doesn't say who received it. If you're offered severance, it's worth asking HR to put the amount and anything you'd have to sign in writing.
What happened to Heartland RV?
Thor placed Heartland under Jayco in March 2025, RV PRO reported, and its 10-K restructuring note says the change moved brands Heartland had built to Jayco, with job cuts and plants closed, sold or transferred. Heartland's Prowler, North Trail and Big Horn trailers still appear among Jayco's operations in Thor's fiscal 2026 annual report.
