Laid off from Trinity Health.
Trinity Health's cuts have kept reaching the office work behind its hospitals. Its 2019 plan was to pull hospital billing into central service centers, and in 2026 it set out to cut revenue cycle and internal IT jobs and hand that work to outside partners.

The most recent Trinity Health layoff we've found
Trinity's notice for the IT layoffs reached Michigan's labor department on September 4, 2026 and listed 557 jobs, with layoffs scheduled from October 25 through November 29, Michigan Advance reported, later clarifying that the layoffs are "taking place at Trinity Health nationally, not the local Livonia location."
What Trinity Health layoffs have meant for employees
Several of Trinity's hospital systems carry names of their own. Its 2026 audited statements list units from Saint Agnes Medical Center in Fresno to the MercyOne Iowa Region and Holy Cross Hospital in Fort Lauderdale. If your paycheck came from one of those systems, a decision Trinity makes for its whole system can still reach you, the way January's revenue cycle cut reached MercyOne's billing staff in Des Moines, a connection Business Record reported.
Trinity has handed in-house work to outside firms before. In 2019 some of its IT workers were to be offered jobs with Leidos, its application management partner, as Idaho Business Review reported, and in 2026 revenue cycle work and internal IT support were set to go to a vendor and a partner that neither Healthcare Dive, Trinity's June 18 update nor Michigan Advance names. For people in that work, a cut can come with a job offer from the new employer attached. If you're offered a job with the partner, it's worth asking how pay, benefits and years of service would carry over, and if a severance offer comes too, whether taking or declining the partner's job changes it.
The money behind these moves is in Trinity's own books. Its audited statements say fiscal 2026 actions to reduce administrative costs and improve operating efficiency produced restructuring charges of $103.9 million, about twice the fiscal 2025 amount. Trinity booked those charges in a year its operations swung from a $12.2 million loss to $281.1 million in operating income, on $26.76 billion in revenue. MercyOne tied its January layoffs to government funding changes expected to cut Trinity's annual revenue by $1.5 billion, Business Record reported.
Some Trinity cuts haven't ended with people leaving the system. As residents left the Albany nursing home, St. Peter's let staff who had accepted jobs elsewhere in its system start at their new sites early, and the Times Union quoted an executive putting the system's vacancies in the hundreds. Many of another 55 employees who weren't on the notice were weighing in-network offers too, the paper reported. In 2020 Trinity Health Michigan recalled roughly 1,200 of the people it had furloughed that spring, Bridge Michigan reported, before announcing the layoffs and schedule cuts that followed. If a Trinity site where you work is closing, openings in the same regional system are worth a look, and where a cut is described as temporary, it's worth asking what a recall would involve.
Trinity's notices don't always sit where a worker would look first. The IT notice was filed in Michigan, Trinity's home state, for layoffs that reach across its system, as Michigan Advance clarified, and MercyOne filed its Iowa notices under its own name, while the Albany home's went in as Villa Mary Immaculate, the name it opened under in 1958. If you're looking for the notice that covers your job, it's worth checking our WARN tracker for the regional system's name as well as Trinity's. If you worked in Michigan, Iowa or New York, where the 2026 filings were made, the claim rules are set out for Michigan, Iowa and New York. If you worked outside those three states, unemployment benefits by state lists the rest.
Because the IT layoffs were set for dates from late October through late November, the notice's first date isn't necessarily any one person's last day, and if you're on it, it's worth confirming which date applies to you. If you had medical coverage through Trinity, how COBRA works covers the general rules for keeping it after a job ends. If you're handed a severance agreement, it's worth reading up on what can be negotiated while you weigh it.

What to do if you're laid off from Trinity Health
- File for unemployment in the state where you worked. Benefits run from your filing date, and severance usually doesn't block you. Trinity Health's biggest hubs: Iowa, Michigan, New York. Somewhere else? Every state is here.
- Apply for financial and hardship assistance. Unemployment supplements income, but food benefits, health coverage and utility help are often available as well. Here's some of what Trinity Health's hub states run: Iowa, Michigan, New York, and every other state is here.
- Mind the health insurance window. Losing coverage opens a 60-day special enrollment period, and an ACA plan usually beats unsubsidized COBRA. Compare your options before the employer coverage lapses, and read how the COBRA clocks run if you are weighing it seriously.
- Get your real runway number. Severance plus savings divided by reality. The calculator takes five minutes.
- Know which clocks are already running. Severance review windows, COBRA election, visa grace periods, and 401(k) rollovers all run on federal deadlines that started at termination. All five deadlines are here.
