Laid off from L3Harris.

L3Harris layoffs have looked different depending on where you sat. A surveillance program ended for people mostly working overseas, a Van Nuys office employing engineers was set to close, and a Brevard worker said he heard on a video call. What follows depends on which kind it was.

What we know about L3Harris severance and layoffs

  • 45,000 employees at the start of 2026, 90% of them based in the US.
  • 5% of the workforce, about 2,500 jobs, in the cut announced April 2024.
  • 447 Rockwall jobs across two JAVA MAN notices, in 2023 and 2025.
  • 181 Van Nuys jobs on two California closure notices in 2025.
  • 4 states with L3Harris layoff filings since 2025, together listing 454 jobs.
  • $267 million in LHX NeXt implementation costs in fiscal 2024, $167 million in 2025.

The most recent L3Harris layoff we've found

In February 2026, L3Harris filed a Florida notice for 63 jobs at its Orlando laser facility, tied to an agreement to sell the plant to Perimeter Solutions, What Now reported.

What L3Harris layoffs have meant for employees

If your program or site at L3Harris is winding down, an offer of another job inside the company can matter as much as the layoff. L3Harris also hired about 6,000 people in fiscal 2025, its annual report says. The severance plan summary it filed in 2020 left out anyone whose position was eliminated while L3Harris offered a comparable alternative, and it treated a lost contract the same way when the company taking it over offered comparable work. If you're offered another role, it's worth asking HR in writing whether saying no would change any severance you'd otherwise be offered.

The plan had limits worth knowing before counting on it. The 2020 summary made regular full-time staff eligible to be offered severance after an involuntary termination, and it left out part-timers, temps, people working on Service Contract Act wage-determination contracts unless L3Harris extended the plan to them, and employees covered by a collective bargaining agreement that doesn't provide for taking part in the plan. About 6% of L3Harris's US employees were covered by collective bargaining agreements at the start of 2026, and for them, whether the plan applies at all depends on what their agreement says. The summary also let L3Harris amend or end the plan at any time, with a person getting what the plan provides on the day employment ends.

Timing in the 2020 summary ran on two clocks. Severance and the cheaper COBRA rate both depended on a signed waiver and release, due within 45 days of termination or a shorter period written into the waiver itself, and until it was signed COBRA cost the full monthly rate plus a 2% fee. Anyone who thought they qualified and got no offer, or thought an offer was miscalculated, was told to write to local HR within 60 days of termination. If you're handed a waiver, it's worth reading its own deadline rather than going by the 45 days, and if you think the math is off, the 60 days for raising that in writing run from termination.

Sales and consolidations raise a different set of questions. After the Van Nuys closure notice, chief financial officer Kenneth Bedingfield said on the company's July earnings call that L3Harris would keep driving facility consolidations, SFGATE reported, so if your site is shrinking, you can ask whether a role is moving with the work and where. L3Harris has sold whole businesses too, announcing in a March 2025 release the sale of its commercial aviation unit, and the 2020 summary listed a job lost because L3Harris sold a subsidiary, business unit or division among the terminations its plan didn't cover. A buyer can be hiring, as the company buying the Orlando laser plant was, according to What Now. If your site or unit is being sold, consider asking both L3Harris and the buyer, in writing, whether you'll be offered a job and whether the severance plan applies to you.

The company-wide round in 2024 reached Brevard County, where L3Harris had more than 7,000 employees, and one account shows how quickly it could land. A software configuration manager with five years at the company told WFTV that his laptop and email were gone within 10 minutes of a Zoom call. A person familiar with the cuts told Reuters they targeted redundancies across every function and didn't necessarily center on Aerojet Rocketdyne, the division L3Harris bought for $4.7 billion. If you're still at L3Harris and uneasy, it's worth keeping personal copies of your pay stubs and benefits elections somewhere outside company systems, since in that account access ended within minutes.

A sourced history of L3Harris layoffs

  • February 2026, Orlando laser plant notice tied to a sale

Layoffs were set to start April 30 at the Advanced Laser Systems Technology site on North Orange Blossom Trail, What Now reported. The buyer, Perimeter Solutions, had met ALST employees in January and expressed interest in hiring some of them.

  • July to October 2025, Van Nuys closure notices

The July notice listed engineers across disciplines, several technicians and a few managers, 145 of them local, SFGATE reported. An October notice for the same Orion Avenue address added 32 jobs, California's WARN report shows.

  • February 2025, JAVA MAN program closeout in Rockwall, Texas

A notice to Texas listed 179 jobs reporting to Rockwall, ending April 22 to June 30, after the surveillance program concluded, a spokesperson told The Dallas Morning News. Of those positions, 148 were out of state, and 51 were pilots.

  • April 2024, a 5% company-wide cut under LHX NeXt

Chief executive Chris Kubasik announced it to employees by email, and Reuters put it at about 2,500 of roughly 50,000 employees. In Brevard County, one worker's account to WFTV described being laid off on a 10-minute Zoom call.

  • October 2023, JAVA MAN reduction announced in Rockwall

L3Harris told Texas it was cutting 268 jobs in the program, with layoffs from November 30 to December 13 that included 87 pilots, The Dallas Morning News reported. Most of them worked remotely overseas and lived outside Texas, the company said.

  • August 2023, about 100 engineers cut in Greenville and Plano

The cuts spanned disciplines and programs while L3Harris kept hiring mechanics and electricians at Greenville, the company told The Herald Banner. Those let go were offered severance, temporary help with COBRA premiums and, if they asked, job placement through an outside transition firm.

What to do if you're laid off from L3Harris

L3Harris layoff and severance questions

What severance has L3Harris given laid-off employees?

The severance plan summary L3Harris filed in 2020 set one week of base pay per full year of service for eligible employees below the executive levels, from two weeks up to 52, with COBRA at active-employee rates for the same number of weeks. In 2025 a spokesperson told SFGATE that Van Nuys staff would get severance under the company's plan and state law. If you're offered severance, you can ask HR whether the 2020 terms still apply, since the summary let L3Harris change the plan.

Why did L3Harris lay off JAVA MAN workers in Rockwall?

L3Harris said in 2025 that the JAVA MAN aerial surveillance program had concluded, and that it was working to find opportunities inside the company for the people affected, The Dallas Morning News reported. The notices counted people by the facility they reported to, Rockwall, even though most of them lived outside Texas and worked remotely overseas.

Is L3Harris closing its Van Nuys office?

L3Harris told California in July 2025 that it was closing the Van Nuys site, with layoffs scheduled from the end of September that year and further rounds at the end of 2025 and the end of September 2026, SFGATE reported. A spokesperson said parts of the work would move to L3Harris facilities in New Jersey as it consolidated its footprint.

Where has L3Harris filed WARN notices recently?

Since the start of 2025, our tracker holds L3Harris filings in California, Florida, Maryland and Texas, including a July 2025 filing for 31 jobs on Columbia Gateway Drive in Columbia, Maryland. Filings from before the 2019 merger may sit under older names, so it's worth searching L-3, L3 Technologies and Harris Corporation along with L3Harris and your city.

What was LHX NeXt at L3Harris?

LHX NeXt was the cost-cutting campaign L3Harris ran from 2023, after the L3 and Harris merger, as SFGATE described it. A spokesperson tied the 2024 job cuts to its commitment of $1 billion in savings over three years, as Reuters reported, and the fiscal 2025 10-K says its costs included workforce optimization and that from fiscal 2026 it would be folded into standard operations, with ongoing savings measured as operational improvement the company calls e3.
