Laid off from Management & Training Corporation.

Management & Training Corporation has run prisons and Job Corps centers under government contracts, and its layoffs on record have followed government decisions about those contracts. In several handovers, the next operator was expected to keep many of MTC's staff.

The most recent Management & Training Corporation layoff we've found

In August 2026 the Labor Department settled the dispute over Job Corps with an agreement that Public Citizen said protects all 99 centers and rescinds the department's termination notices, Deseret News reported. MTC, operator of the Clearfield center in Utah, said it fully supports the department's anticipated withdrawal of its stop work and termination notices.

What Management & Training Corporation layoffs have meant for employees

MTC's Oregon and Florida notices call it the contract operator of the sites they cover, and in Texas and at Atterbury the sites kept running under someone else once MTC's role ended, as the state prison agency's September 2025 release and Inside Indiana Business show. At Atterbury, MTC said it expected "the vast majority" of staff to stay on with the new contractor, and its Florida notices say it understands GEO Group may keep many of the staff at Bay and Graceville. Those Florida lists cover medical staff, from nurses to a dentist and mental health professionals, as well as each prison's correctional officers. If you work at an MTC site that's changing hands, in any role, the next operator's hiring plans and pay are worth asking about as early as you can.

The reasons on record for the 2025 cuts in Texas and at Job Corps centers were budgets and contracts. MTC called the Texas change a business decision that came from state budgetary considerations and said it didn't reflect on the quality of care MTC delivers to the state, KXAN reported. The Labor Department's May 2025 release tied its Job Corps pause to an internal review of the program's outcome and structure and to a deficit it projected at $213 million, and MTC called that decision deeply troubling, the Honolulu Star-Advertiser reported. If your MTC job ended in one of those 2025 cuts and a future employer asks why, the record ties it to decisions about contracts.

The 2025 Job Corps notices followed the Labor Department's pause of every contractor-run center. At Tongue Point, MTC's notice to Oregon said no new operator was being contracted for the center, so the staff there had no successor to stay on with. The shutdown stalled once legal challenges emerged and ended in an August 2026 settlement, Deseret News reported, and MTC said it looks forward to running the Clearfield center for years to come. If one of MTC's June 2025 letters reached you, how that settlement bears on your own job is worth raising with MTC.

Staying with MTC has been a separate question from staying at the site. MTC's Tongue Point and Graceville notices said employees had no bumping rights, and its Indiana notice for Atterbury said the same. In 2020, when Texas weighed idling Bradshaw State Jail, the plan KETK described would have offered staff jobs at other MTC facilities first and state jobs after that. MTC also said in June 2025 that it would keep providing treatment programming at select Texas prison units. If you've been given a last day and would rather stay with MTC, asking about openings at its other sites before that date is a reasonable step.

How much warning MTC's notices gave has varied. At Atterbury the layoffs took effect November 30, 2024, and the state filing followed December 13, Inside Indiana Business noted. At Tongue Point the June 4 notice scheduled the first departures for June 6, and in Florida the last days in MTC's notices have shifted since April. If you're weighing another job against a last day on an MTC notice, checking for an updated notice is worth the time, since the dates for both Florida prisons were revised after the first notices went out.

MTC is based in Centerville, Utah, and ran 24 facilities in eight states in 2020, KETK reported. Since the start of 2025 its notices in our WARN tracker have come from nine states, with the most jobs in Texas, California, Florida and Utah. If your site has a notice there, it may be filed under the site's own name, the way the Clearfield Job Corps and Tongue Point Job Corps Center notices are. Texas unemployment benefits, California unemployment benefits, Florida unemployment benefits and Utah unemployment benefits explain how claims work in those four. If you had MTC health coverage and are offered COBRA, how COBRA works covers the general rules.

MTC's seven June notices for those units total 900 jobs in our WARN tracker. The Kyle and Coleman notices were set to take effect August 31, KXAN reported, and Texas's prison agency confirms the September 1 takeover in its September 2025 release.

  • June 2025, Job Corps notices after a Labor Department pause

What to do if you're laid off from Management & Training Corporation

Management & Training Corporation layoff and severance questions

What severance has Management & Training Corporation given laid-off employees?

On MTC's Indiana notice for the 2024 Atterbury Job Corps layoff, the separation benefits question is answered No and the COBRA question Yes. Its 2025 Tongue Point notice and 2026 Graceville notice give last days and say employees have no bumping rights, but they name no severance terms. If you were let go from another MTC site, the Indiana answer doesn't settle yours, and you could put the question of separation pay to MTC in writing.

Did Texas hire MTC employees when it took over the prisons?

Texas's prison agency said it hoped former MTC employees would join it, sent recruiters and held virtual transition seminars, and said those who stayed would get state salaries and benefits, KXAN reported in June 2025. MTC said it expected the state to retain many of the workers. Neither statement counted how many were hired.

When is GEO Group taking over MTC's Florida prisons?

GEO said in its August 2026 results release that it now expects the Bay and Graceville contracts to move to it on July 1, 2027. That's later than the last days in MTC's May 2026 notices, July 31 at Bay and August 31 at Graceville, which had themselves been pushed back from June 30. If you work at either prison and are weighing another job, those dates have already moved.

How many WARN notices has Management & Training Corporation filed?

MTC has 49 filings in our WARN tracker, the earliest from 2003, and 23 filings covering 2,585 jobs since the start of 2025 across nine states; 21 of those 23 carry a job count. The recent filings include the 370-job notice for the Clearfield, Utah, Job Corps center in June 2025, and Texas accounts for 13 of them.
